No racing today at the J/70 North American Championship in Rochester, NY due to lack of wind. Sunday is the final day of competition. For complete regatta information, visit www.j70nac.com.
Five races are now in the books, and the J/70 North American Championship has a new leader. Brian Keane continued to post consistent scores, and with nothing lower than a sixth (5,6,2,4,5) has moved solidly into first place with 22 points. Tim Healy dropped to second with 33 points, and Ian Atkins is in third with 49. Brian Elliott currently tops the Corinthian division. The regatta, hosted by Rochester Yacht Club in Rochester, New York, will not have a discard race. Teams were briefly postponed on shore as the wind filled in. When it did, the breeze ranged between 6-8 knots under clear skies. Bennet Greenwald tallied the victory in race four, just ahead of Martin Johnsson and Jud Smith. Joel Ronning grabbed a bullet in the next battle, as Martin Kullman and Allan Terhune finalized the top three spots. Racing continues through Sunday for the 71 teams from Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Sweden and the United States. Photos are available on the J/70 Class Facebook page, and complete results may be found at www.j70nac.com.
